Gail Albert has been taking nature photographs all her adult life and began exhibiting in the last decade. She is also a clinical psychologist; teacher of mindfulness meditation and Jewish contemplative practices; author; and lover of wild places. She has written three books, of which the first, Matters of Chance, was a National Book Award finalist. She has lived in Woodstock, NY since 1999.

"I experience the outdoors as my sanctuary, my place of emotional recovery even when the scene hints at menace. I am captured by the material features of the natural world as they cry out with insistent presence even though they are also—and always—impermanent, transient, dissolving. Each form is temporary, mortal just as I am, whether the time scale is one of geologic eras or mere seconds as the light shifts, yet everything reverberates with an implacable and often unsettling glory."

"All these sites feel alive to my senses, pulsing with the same unfolding creation that gives me my life, emanating ineffable glimmers of infinity as they proclaim both our smallness in the immensity of creation and our responsibility to protect what we have been given."
