Dorothea Marcus is a self-taught photographer, creating primarily abstract compositions using an iPhone. Working with a master printer, she produces richly pigmented painterly artworks.

She is a lifelong art collector, and her sensibility informs all her work. A late bloomer, she only started creating her own art in the last decade, Her “eye” now has a “hand”, too.

Marcus studies printmaking and collage at the Woodstock School of Art and often incorporates photography in her mixed media pieces.

Based in Woodstock, NY, her work has been shown widely in the Hudson Valley. Her first venue was Emerge Gallery in Saugerties, where she exhibited and sold several photographs from her travels in Morocco in 2018. She had a solo show of her photography at the Old Glenford Church Studio in Glenford NY in 2019, and has shown photographs or photo collages at WAAM, Byrdcliffe, the Lockwood Gallery, Emerge Gallery, Center for Photography at Woodstock, the Lace Mill, Davis Orton Gallery, Lev Shalem Gallery, and the Olive Free Library.
